Tips for great Images Upgrade your paper One of the keys to getting great prints is the paper. Our standard paper is Kodak?s Endura Paper, commonly referred to as E-Surface. E-Surface features a high contrast and color saturation, making it an excellent choice for portrait, candid, event, high-key, and commercial applications. It produces excellent flesh reproduction and softer, smoother flesh from highlights to shadows. It has improved light stability - Over 100 years before noticeable fading in typical home display. It has also improved dark stability - 200 years before noticeable fading in the most common home storage. For a small premium you can upgrade your paper to our new Kodak Endura Metallic paper. Metallic paper features a unique pearlescent surface. It is incredibly strong and highly resistant to tearing. The paper is highly saturated and has a unique, almost three dimensional appearance. Images with bright, bold colors or a lot of blacks, silvers, chromes or gold are truly spectacular on this paper. However, you probably would not choose it for a traditional portrait with soft lighting and old masters background. Recommended file size Digital Cameras measure their resolution in pixels. These pixels are NOT measured per inch, but are a total count of how many pixels were used to capture the entire image. If you take a digital photo at 1600x1200 pixels, the total pixel count of the captured image will be 1,920,000 pixels. Whether you print this 1600x1200 image as a 8"x10" photo or an 16"x20" photo, it will still have 1,920,000 pixels. Photos intended for print should be taken at the highest [pixel] resolution possible for the best print quality. Printing at different sizes does not change how many pixels are in the original image. Lower resolution photos printed at larger sizes stretch the pixels beyond the point where they look clear and sharp. The best printer can not make a low resolution photo look better than its original quality? but it sure can make beautiful prints when given a high resolution photo to work with!

True Digital Black and White We are excited and proud to announce the availability of a new service - True Digital Black & White. You may be wondering what is so new about digital black & white. After all, you have been ordering black & white prints from your digital files for a long time. In fact, we have been printing black & white from digital files since we purchased our first digital printer serveral years ago. Well, these prints have been printed from a color digital printer on color paper processed in color RA4 chemistry, which can make it quite difficult to obtain neutral midtones. Our Kodak Professional Durst Theta digital laser printer was specifically designed to print on black & white paper. We use Kodak Polymax D surface paper and process it in Polymax chemistry. Because of the unique nature of this product paper types cannot be combined in ordering. Why is 'Edit Crop' tool not working? This problem is likely caused by pop-up stopping software or virus protection software that has pop-up protection built in, running on your computer. A sure way to avoid this problem is to make sure that any pop-up stopping software or virus protection software with pop-up stopping capabilities built in is disabled before you attempt to upload an order. You can re-activate the software immediately after uploading the order for your computer's protection and your Internet browsing convenience. What color space does MAGIX accept? Mpix printers output in sRGB color space. Exact sizing? Please note: Digital printers have what is called, over sizing. Over sizing is a process in which the image being developed onto the photo paper is magnified by a certain percentage to counteract paper shift within the printer. Photographic paper is loaded into the printers in rolls. As the paper travels from the roll through the machine it can drift up to 1/8 of an inch by the time it reaches the lasers that expose the paper with the image. No amount of calibration on the paper path can prevent this drift. A 1/8 of an inch is about half the radius of the pen or pencil on your desk. The over sizing that is applied to each image runs between 1.5% -1.7%; we generally quote the percentage at 2% for a round number to work with. How can you use this information? Well the over sizing is so minimal, that 99% of your orders will not be effected by it. However, in certain instance where you may have images butted up against the outer edge like in a collage, or a pin stripe around an image's perimeter, you will want to take this 2% value into exception. In most cases you can do very simple math to calculate the expected over sizing. Our message is to add the 2% additional space to the perimeter of any potentially affected image. For regular prints such as an 8x10, the additional leeway your need to provide is a 1/16 of an inch in the 8-inch dimension and 1/5 of an inch in the 10-inch dimension. Of course, the larger the print dimensions, the more image space effected by over sizing, thus the more padding that is needed. Custom Print Sizes? At this time our printers will only print to the aspect ratio of our standard print sizes. If you have images that our not sized to our standard print sizes you will have to place them on a canvas in Photoshop to get the desired size. Example a 4x9 image would be placed on a 8x10 canvas (white border) in Photoshop to get the custom print size. |
